Hi, I’m Rajasekar Harivoli — a designer, and builder driven by a deep commitment to sustainable, earth-based construction.

With a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, I chose to move beyond conventional construction practices and immerse myself in methods that are environmentally responsible, resource-efficient, and rooted in local context. Over the years, I’ve found myself drawn to earth-based construction — not just because it’s sustainable, but because it makes sense. Using what’s locally available, building in a way that suits the environment, and keeping things simple and efficient feels like the right way to build.

During my time as a Site Engineer at the Auroville Earth Institute, I got the chance to work hands-on with alternative construction techniques, especially arches, vaults, and domes. Working with locally available materials helped me understand how these structures perform in real conditions, while also building a strong respect for craftsmanship and low-impact construction. 

I don’t see design and construction as separate things. For me, they go hand in hand. I like being involved from the idea stage all the way to execution — figuring things out on site, adapting when needed, and making sure what we build actually works. This hands-on process allows me to create spaces that are not only structurally sound, but also deeply connected to their surroundings.

I’m interested in creating spaces that feel grounded — buildings that sit well in their surroundings, use resources responsibly, and are made to last.
